Through Your Eyes — Community gathering at the museum experience

April 25, 2026

Through Your Eyes

A day at the National Museum of African American History & Culture, captured by the people who lived it.

Thank You for Being Part of Our Story

From the bottom of our hearts — thank you for joining us. Your presence made this experience richer, warmer, and more meaningful. We are so grateful you chose to spend this day with us, and we pray it stirred something beautiful in your heart.

“For we are God's handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works.”— Ephesians 2:10

For Those Who Could Not Join Us

What You Missed

The museum is not just a building — it is a journey. Here are the moments that moved us, the spaces that transformed us, and the memories we carry forward.

The Journey Below Ground

We began three levels beneath the earth — a powerful architectural metaphor for the history we were about to witness. The dimly lit corridors, the weight of the space, the silence that fell over every group as they descended.

The Emmett Till Memorial

Perhaps the most moving moment of the day. The casket, the photographs, the story told with unflinching honesty. Many stood in tears. Many stood in prayer. It was a moment none of us will forget.

The Culture Galleries Above

From the depths of history, we ascended into celebration — music, fashion, sports, and art. The joy on children's faces as they saw themselves represented. The pride in parents' eyes.

The Sweet Home Cafe

Lunch became communion. Stories were shared over collard greens and cornbread. Strangers became friends. The cafe was more than a meal — it was a gathering place for our community.

The Contemplative Court

A waterfall of words. Visitors sat in silence, letting the cascading light and inscribed text wash over them. It was a space for reflection, for gratitude, for healing.

The Community We Built

More than a museum visit — this was a shared experience. Families walked together. Children asked questions. Elders shared memories. We did not just visit history. We lived it together.

What You Saw, What We See

We asked every attendee to capture what mattered most to them — the exhibits that moved them, the joy on their family's faces, the details that stuck. These are your perspectives. These are your stories.

Every eye sees a different light.

What moves one soul may pass unnoticed by another — yet when we gather our gazes together, the world reveals itself more fully than any of us could see alone.

The same hallway held a thousand different stories. The same exhibit stirred a thousand different hearts. And now, through these photographs, we get to see the beauty we each missed — the moments that mattered to someone else, the details that caught their eye, the joy that lit up their lens.

Thank you for lending us your eyes.
